    What Is Wegovy?

Wegovy (semaglutide) is an injectable prescription medicine that may help adults with obesity, or some adults with excess weight and weight-related medical problems, to lose weight and keep it off.

Treatment starts on a low dose, which is gradually increased over several weeks under clinical supervision to help manage side effects.

Available strengths: 0.5mg–7.2mg. Your clinician will determine the appropriate starting dose and escalation schedule for you.

    How It Works

    • Reduces appetite
    • Increases feelings of fullness
    • Slows gastric emptying

    Who May Be Suitable

Treatment may be considered for adults who:

    • Have a BMI within a clinically defined range
    • Have weight-related health conditions (such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes), or
    • Meet other medical criteria set out in UK guidance

A full medical history is required before any prescribing decision is made. We do not prescribe for cosmetic weight loss.

    How It's Administered

    • Self-injected once a week, on the same day each week, using a pre-filled pen
    • Injected under the skin (subcutaneously) into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm
    • Injection sites should be rotated each week to reduce irritation
    • Your clinician or a member of our team will talk you through injection technique before you start
    • Can be taken with or without food, at any time of day

Who Should Not Use This Treatment

Treatment is unlikely to be suitable if you:

    • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
    • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
    • Have a known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any other ingredient in Wegovy
    • Have type 1 diabetes or a history of diabetic ketoacidosis
    • Have a history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease (this will be reviewed individually)

This is not a complete list. Your clinician will review your full history during assessment.

    Common Side Effects

    • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea
    • Constipation or indigestion
    • Abdominal pain or bloating
    • Reduced appetite
    • Fatigue or headache
    • Injection site reactions
